REHOBOTH, 10 MAR (NAMPA) - Rehoboth residents were left in shock on Saturday after an argument at a local bar escalated and ended in a shooting, leaving two men dead and one woman hospitalised.
The Namibian Police Force’s Regional Commander for Hardap, John Lifasi on Saturday confirmed the shooting and said it was reported to the Rehoboth Police Station at 04h30.
Lifasi said the fight between the 35-year-old Salmon Afrikaner and Daantjie Esterhuizen, 34, started at a bar in Rehoboth’s Block E residental area. Afrikaner reportedly stabbed Esterhuizen with a knife and Esterhuizen then sought medical help at the St Mary’s Hospital.
“According to our reports, Esterhuizen after the treatment went home and confronted Afrikaner, who was his neighbour. This is when Afrikaner shot his girlfriend twice, once in the leg and in the shoulder, when she tried to intervene,” Lifasi said.
Afrikaner reportedly thereafter shot Esterhuizen in the stomach and then shot himself in the head. He died on the spot.
Esterhuizen was taken to hospital, where he later died.
Martha Howaes, Afrikaner’s girlfriend was also rushed to the hospital where she is being treated.
The two men’s bodies were taken to the local mortuary.
Police investigations continue.
