Wrestling team wins medals in Nigeria

WINDHOEK, 12 FEB (NAMPA) – Three Namibian wrestlers won medals at the recently concluded Senior African Wrestling Championships held in Nigeria between 07 and 11 February.
Merven Eixab who fought in the 48 kilogramme category and Devin Bernhard in the 60kg won bronze medals at the championship.
Romeo Goliath, who is in the 55kg category and the only athlete in the squad to compete in the junior category, won a silver medal.
Six Namibian wrestlers and their coach attended the championship, an annual event which showcases the best of African Wrestling in the senior, junior and cadet categories of wrestling.
The Namibian Wrestling team used this championship as a qualifier for the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics to be hosted by Buenos Aires, Argentina from 06 to 18 October.
Nigeria hosted the championships for the first time since its inception 42 years ago.
Other athletes who formed part of the squad are, Asino Festus, 45kg; Salom Panduleni, 51kg; and Linus Katujanda, 55kg.
The team was coached by Luis Forcelledo. They are expected to return to Namibia on Tuesday.
