WINDHOEK, 05 AUG (NAMPA) The Tender Board of Namibia is busy finalising the tender for the construction of the multi-million dollar Nectartal Dam in the Karas Region as per the court judgment.
The construction of the dam and the Phase One bulk water supply tender was initially awarded to Italian company Messers Salini S.p.A at a meeting held on 14 March 2013.
The award made by the Tender Board was legally challenged, and the High Court of Namibia pronounced itself on Thursday 04 July 2013, ordering that the award made by the Tender Board be set aside.
In a media statement issued here on Monday, Public Relations Officer of the Tender Board of Namibia, Leonie du Toit said the matter was referred back to the Tender Board for the purpose of determining a new award.
Du Toit said subsequent to the judgment, the Tender Board met to consider legal issues emanating from the order and is busy finalising the tender as per the court judgment.
The public will be informed as the matter proceeds, she said.
The main focus for the construction of the Neckartal Dam is to allow irrigation farming. It is expected to employ 1 000 people, especially from the Karas Region.
The new dam is expected to be three times the size of the Hardap Dam, located near Mariental.
