KEETMANSHOOP, 06 JUN (NAMPA) - A family of four was left homeless after a mysterious fire gutted their shack in the Tseiblaagte residential area of Keetmanshoop on Wednesday morning.
The corrugated iron-sheet shack was located in the ?Build Together? area.
?We do not know where we will sleep tonight, or what we will eat from today onwards. I do not know what caused the fire, because there were no matches or candles inside,? said homeowner Patricia Nangura Mbumbo in front of her burned-out dwelling.
The family, comprising Mbumbo, her boyfriend Amand Mupangwa Thighuru as well as a daughter and son lost their blankets, clothes, beds, food, documents and other property.
Mbumbo said she was at work when her house was destroyed by fire, and only her mother was at home when the fire started, but she does not know what caused it.
The Fire Brigade apparently also arrived late because it was not informed on time.
?We are still paying for the freezer and the pots which we got from Lewis Stores on account. What is left are the two chairs you see there,? she pointed out to Nampa.
Thinghuru then appealed for donations from friends, family and Good Samaritans.
?We request anyone who can assist us with any donation so that we can be able to survive?, he stated.
The couple could not estimate the value of their destroyed properties.
The Namibian Police Force (NamPol)?s Crime Investigations? Coordinator for the Karas Region, Deputy Commissioner Rudolf Isaak confirmed the incident, saying there were luckily no lives lost.
?Police officers were at the scene, and told me about the event. It is not clear what caused the fire, but we will investigate,? Isaak stated.
