WINDHOEK, 09 FEB (NAMPA) - Several incidents of stabbing, murder and suicide took place in the country over the past four days.
The Namibian Police Force (NamPol)'s spokesperson Sergeant Slogan Matheus told a media conference here on Sunday afternoon that Shaun Beukes, 34, died after he was allegedly stabbed with a knife by another man at the Tina Lager Sheeben in Rehoboth of the Hardap Region on Friday afternoon at 14h10.
Beukes died on the spot. His next of kin are informed of his death.
The suspect, also 34, fled the scene immediately, but was arrested shortly thereafter by the police.
Also in the Hardap Region, Hendrick Isaacks, 50, died on Thursday last week after he was allegedly hit and killed by a passing vehicle on the Rehoboth-Kalkrand main road.
He died on the spot, and his next of kin are informed of his death.
A case of culpable homicide is now under police investigations.
In the //Karas Region, a 10-year-old boy who allegedly ran into a road chasing a ball, was hit and killed by a passing Toyota pick-up in the Noordhoek residential area in Keetmanshoop on Friday last week.
The deceased person has been identified as Jeremiah Goeieman.
A 41-year-old woman died in Karasburg, //Karas Region after her 24-year-old boyfriend hit her with stones several times on her head.
Adel Gaoses, 41, died on Thursday last week, following the incident at the Plakkerskamp in the Westerkim location a few hours earlier.
Her youthful boyfriend, 24, was arrested, and will now face a charge of murder.
In the Kunene Region, an elderly man collapsed and died on Thursday last week at the Otjivero village in the Werda area.
It is alleged that Naftali Muteze, 62, who was visiting his wife at the said village, left his sleeping tent and went outside.
When he took long to return, his wife went looking for him, only to find her husband lying dead.
Police are investigating the circumstances behind Muteze's death.
In the Omaheke Region, Cornelius Humbu, 34, allegedly ended his life on Thursday last week by shooting himself with a 9 millimetre pistol in the chest.
He died on the spot.
The incident took place at the Ourundu village in the Otjinene district at about 17h30.
It is reported that the deceased informed his wife and workers that he was not feeling well, and then allegedly entered his tent and shot himself.
Another suicide was reported in the Omusati Region, where Ruben Ithete Axel, a member of the Namibian Defence Force (NDF), allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself with a rope in his sleeping room at his home village of Engombe in the Onesi Constituency on Wednesday last week.
His body was discovered by his wife the following day.
The 50-year-old deceased soldier was based at Okahandja.
No suicide note was left behind, and police investigations continue.
The police at Outapi (Omusati Region) reported that Hifikepunye Mwatila Matheus died on Thursday last week after an elderly man hacked him with a panga earlier during the day.
Matheus, 49, died at the Oshikuku Roman Catholic Hospital the following day.
The incident took place at the Oshigongishomeya cuca shops in the district of Outapi in the Omusati Region.
The suspect, a 64-year-old pensioner, has been arrested.
A case was opened by the police at Ogongo in the Omusati Region after a 17-year-old mentally challenged girl was allegedly raped by a man at about 23h00 on Friday.
The suspect is still at large.
Police in the Otjozondjupa Region are investigating the death of Khanxan Jacob, 24, who allegedly fell and died while under the influence of alcohol on Thursday.
His next of kin are informed.
