Pohamba to open Parliament on Tuesday

WINDHOEK, 08 FEB (NAMPA) - President Hifikepunye Pohamba will officially open the Ninth Session of the Fifth Parliament on Tuesday.
National Assembly Speaker, Dr Theo-Ben Gurirab announced this in a media statement issued on Thursday.
The session will be held under the theme Promoting oversight effectiveness towards ensuring transparent national budget administration.
Gurirab said Pohamba will officially open Parliament in keeping with the provisions of Rule 15 of the Standing Rules and Orders and Constitutional responsibilities.
Bills which might be tabled during this session include the Appropriation Bill, Audit Bill, Civil Aviation Bill, Financial Institutions and Markets Bill, Higher Education Amendment Bill, Marriage Bill, Immigration Control Amendment Bill, and the Namibia Financial Institutions Supervisory Authority Bill.
Other bills up for possible discussion are Namibia Students Financial Assistance Amendment Bill, National Construction Industry Council Bill, National Security Council Bill, Seed and Seed Varieties Bill, Access and Benefits Sharing Bill, as well as the Child Care and Protection Bill.
The Electronic Transactions Bill, Gaming and Entertainment Control Bill, Plant Breeders and Farmers Rights Bill, and the Urban and Regional Planning Bill may also be tabled.
The Eighth Session of the Fifth Parliament ended in November last year.
