OTJIWARONGO, 05 FEB (NAMPA) – The servicing of land in the Ombili informal settlement of Otjiwarongo is progressing well.
1300 plots will be allocated to residents, the Otjiwarongo Municipality’s Public Relations’ Officer Adelheid Shilongo told Nampa on Wednesday.
She said the digging of trenches to conceal water pipelines underground is at an advanced stage, while the creation of roads is also underway.
The digging of trenches started in December 2013.
“We are progressing well, and we are in the final stages of capturing data for the applicants of plots,” she explained, adding that the awarding of plots will commence at the beginning of March this year.
Over 4 000 people have applied for plots in Ombili last year.
When Nampa visited the Ombili informal settlement this morning, 10 men were found digging an approximately 400-metre-long trench.
They are expected to finish digging by 28 February 2014, said one of the workers, Petrus Nakalamba.
