WINDHOEK, 04 FEB (NAMPA) Nominees for the 2014 Namibian Music Awards (NAMAs) will be announced on 31 March live on the Namibian Broadcasting Corporations (NBC) Watagwan music programme.
This announcement was made by co-organiser Mobile Telecommunications Limited (MTC)s Chief Human Capital and Corporate Affairs Officer, Tim Ekandjo in the capital on Tuesday.
He said the organisers will not host a nomination show this year as it was done in previous years, and everybody would now be able to watch the nomination show live on NBC-TV.
At previous nomination launches, some artists were not in Windhoek, and had to learn through third parties whether they were nominated or not.
Ekandjo further revealed that the vetting process has been completed, and the judging process will run from this Wednesday until the end of this month.
Vetting means going through all the received entries to make sure that all comply with the rules and regulations.
This was done by a steering committee, which consisted of 12 independent individuals who are neither from the NBC nor MTC, he noted.
A total of 563 entries were received, of which 209 entries were disqualified.
Some reasons for disqualification were that applicants original CDs were not submitted; artists did not have valid albums; and albums were not released on time, said Ekandjo.
Duplicate entries by artists, and entries in more than two music genres were also disqualified.
The potential dates for the NAMAs are set as 25 and 26 April, or 02 and 03 May 2014.
We will confirm the exact dates within the next two weeks, he stated.
