Bondelswarts' acting chief arrested for drunk driving

WINDHOEK, 02 JUN (NAMPA) - The acting Bondelswarts Chief Josef Christian was arrested in Keetmanshoop on Saturday for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol.
Speaking during a media briefing here on Sunday, Namibian Police Force (NamPol) Deputy Commissioner Edwin Kanguatjivi said Christian, 52, was arrested at about 20h30 in front of the Rencia Supermarket in the Kronline location of Keetmanshop, following a tip-off from members of the public.
Kanguatjivi said the suspect was arrested for driving a vehicle under the influence of alcohol while on duty.
He is expected to appear in the Keetmanshoop Magistrate?s Court on Monday.
In a separate incident, the 23-year-old Idinwa David died on the spot after he was stabbed with a knife in a quarrel at a shebeen in the Omaheke Region on Saturday at about 19h00.
A doctor was called to the scene, and pronounced David dead. A 26-year-old male suspect is expected to appear in the Gobabis Magistrate?s Court on Monday.
In the Khomas Region, a 19-year-old man from Okahandja Park died at the Katutura State Hospital after he was stabbed with a knife at about 02h00 on Saturday along Ongava Street in the capital.
No arrest has yet been made, and police investigations continue.
