WINDHOEK, 29 JAN (NAMPA) - The Namibia Meteorological Service says it is anticipating heavy rainfall across the country this coming weekend.
A media statement issued weather forecaster Simon Dirkse on Thursday said as a result of the formation of a tropical low pressure system with strong upper level divergence, heavy rainfall is expected over the north-east and central east.
He added that on Friday, heavy rainfall is expected over Kavango East and the eastern parts of the Otjozondjupa Region.
Heavy rains are expected over the Otjozondjupa and Khomas regions, as well as over the northern parts of Omaheke on Saturday.
The heavy rains are anticipated to continue over the Khomas Region on Sunday.
According to Dirkse, heavy rains are defined as 50 millimetres (mm) or more rainfall in a place within a period of 24 hours.
Heavy rains associated with tropical lows are accompanied by strong winds and intense thunder and lightning.
