Find a purpose for voting: Maamberua

WINDHOEK, 29 JAN (NAMPA) - Swanu of Namibia president Usutuaije Maamberua on Wednesday encouraged Namibians to register in order to vote for a purpose.
Maamberua made the plea when he acquired his voters card at the Baines shopping centre voter registration point in the Windhoek West Constituency, where he registered along with other members of his family.
My plea and call to the population at large is that we should not register for the sake of registering. We should not register just because we want to go and vote. You register in order to vote for a purpose, the Swanu leader said, adding that Namibians should have it in the back of their minds that they are voting to bring about fundamental changes to peoples standard of living.
Making an example of himself, he said he was registering in order to see change in social health, social housing provision, and the returning of land to indigenous people.
Those are the purposes for which I have registered today in order to vote so that those things can actually be realised under a different arrangement, he explained.
To those who are still undecided as to whether they should register to take part in the upcoming elections later this year, Maamberua said such people should urgently find a purpose for voting.
It took the Swanu president at least 20 minutes to complete his registration, and he said it could have been completed in less time.
I do not know why the ECN has to use the electronic and manual system duplication. First you are registered manually and then the same information is manually put onto the electronic system, he said.
Maamberua called on the ECN to make adjustments to the registration process.
