Gender Equality Minister wins walk at Shokonawa Marathon

ONGWEDIVA, 27 JAN (NAMPA) – The Gabriel Simon Shokonawa Marathon which took place in the Kavango West Region’s Nkurenkuru area on Saturday attracted 184 participants.
The organiser of the marathon, Gabriel Simon Shokonawa told Nampa in an interview on Monday the participants were from the Kavango West, Kavango East, Ohangwena, Oshana, Omusati, Zambezi, Khomas and Hardap regions.
The Minister of Gender Equality and Child Welfare, Rosalia Nghidinwa officially opened the event at 07h00 on Saturday.
The marathon’s 42,2 kilometre (km) event could not take place due to a lack of interest, and as such only the 21,1km; 10km and 5km races took place.
A number of political leaders, as well as officials of the Nkurenkuru local authority, took part in a 4km walk which was won by Nghidinwa.
Shokonawa won the 21,1km race after completing it in a time of one hour and 30 minutes, followed by Haruwodi Sitekela and Hausiku Marikus.
Jerobiam Amunyolo was the winner of the 10km race. He completed this race in 48 minutes and 22 seconds, followed by Jason Samuel and Demingu Andrias.
The winner in the 5km race was Kanyetu Kohole (16 minutes and 15 seconds). Charles Kakururu is the runner-up, while Mulenga Andreas came in third.
