NATIONAL PARKS DRAW MORE PEOPLE There has been a 2.4 percent rise in visitors passing through the gates of national parks in December compared to the previous year, SA National Parks (SANParks) said on Monday. "SANParks is proud to see that the national parks remain among the country's most popular family vacation destinations," said spokesman Reynold Thakhuli. In December, a total of 692,498 people passed through its gates. Of these people, 73,910 spent a minimum of one night inside a national park. The camping section of SANParks recorded a growth of 3.2 percent in the number of occupied sites. Its occupancy figure was at 65.9 percent in December. Thakhuli said the Table Mountain National Park was the most visited place, with 333,090 visitors in December. The Kruger National Park hosted 180,328 guests.
