AMCU PLATINUM TALKS RESUME Talks aimed at resolving an Amcu strike at platinum mines will resume in Pretoria on Monday. The Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (Amcu) began a protected strike at Lonmin Platinum, Anglo American Platinum and Impala Platinum on Thursday. The following day, the union, employers, Labour Minister Mildred Oliphant and Mineral Resources Minister Susan Shabangu met at the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration's (CCMA) offices in Johannesburg. The talks are set down to run until Wednesday. Amcu are demanding an entry-level monthly salary of R12,500, but employers have said that this would be unaffordable. Amplats CEO Chris Griffith, Implats CEO Terence Goodlace and Lonmin CEO Ben Magara recently said a prolonged strike would probably further damage South Africa's reputation as an attractive business and investment destination.
