WINDHOEK, 26 JAN (NAMPA) – Maternal health and child mortality, gender-based violence, as well as women’s empowerment will take centre stage during the second Rural Women’s Parliament set to take place here from 04 to 06 February 2014.
To ensure equal regional representation, the session will be attended by two females and one male from all 14 regions of the country, said Deputy Secretary of the National Council, Juliet Mupurua in an invitation to the event.
It will be hosted by the National Council’s Women Caucus.
The first Grassroots Women’s Parliament took place in September last year, and was aimed at giving women an opportunity to discuss issues and make a difference in society, especially in rural areas.
The Rural Women's Parliament was an initiative of the United Nations’ Commission on the Status of Women and the Namibian National Council's Women Caucus.
The session is aimed at dealing with issues affecting women, especially at grassroots level of the society.
