KEETMANSHOOP, 26 JAN (NAMPA) – A senior reporter of the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) in Keetmanshoop, Ellen Nanuses was on Sunday ordained as a pastor.
This recognition follows her contribution to the management and leadership of the Eagles' Rock Christian Fellowship Church in Tseiblaagte for the past seven years.
Nanuses has been leading the congregation, especially when the other pastors are not present. The ordination now gives her more authority to continue with her activities in that church.
Holding her certificate of ordination, Nanuses told Nampa after the ceremony here that she learned pastoring through hands-on experience, which led to her church recognising her efforts and giving her that position.
She did not attend any theology school, but attended various seminars in spiritual leadership, church building and planting, as well as women in ministries.
Asked whether she will now give up her job at the national broadcaster, the pastor said no - she will continue as usual.
Nanuses noted that her being a pastor will not affect her job in any way, as she has been managing and balancing both jobs very well since she started with the church.
“People only know me as the lady of NBC, but I have been doing the pastoring and my NBC work at the same time,” she said.
Nanuses stressed that she will continue as a reporter with integrity, and will report objectively on issues and events pertaining to her church.
'There will be no conflict of interest, because I have handled conflicting stories before in my years of reporting and as a church leader. Objectivity will always remain in my reporting,' she responded when probed about possible conflict of interest in her two roles.
Nanuses noted that her employer is aware of her pastoral job, and does not have a problem with it.
She also holds an Advanced Sound Recording and Engineering Diploma from City Varsity in Cape Town South Africa, a private media and television school.
Nanuses was a judge during the 2012 Namibian Annual Music Awards (NAMAs).
The ordination ceremony was attended by church members, as well as her family and friends from amongst others Walvis Bay, Otjiwarongo, Okahandja and Windhoek.
