RUNDU, 23 JAN (NAMPA) - The Swapo-Party Women’s Council (SPWC) has established structures in the two Kavango regions which are now functional.
In the Kavango East Region, the position of SPWC coordinator which was left vacant by Johanna Kandjimi after she became the party’s coordinator for the Kavango East Region, was filled late last year.
Kandjimi was replaced by Annakleta Sikerete as the new coordinator, while Elina Mpasi is the mobiliser, with the treasurer being Ernestine Ndumba.
In the Kavango West Region, Maria Ntusi was elected as the coordinator while Lucia Siwombe is the mobiliser and the treasurer is Natalia Amadhila.
The SPWC election in the Kavango West Region took place on 10 January.
Meanwhile, the ruling party has elected a new leadership for the Nkurenkuru district of the Kavango West Region after the previous election results were nullified last week due to a gender balance issue as only men occupied the top three positions.
During an election held at Nkurenkuru on Wednesday, Remigius Siyave was elected as coordinator. Bernadine Haukwambi was elected as mobiliser, and Damian Nakambare who currently represents the party as Local Authority councillor for Nkurenkuru, is the treasurer.
The Swapo-Party is also set to hold a regional conference this coming weekend to elect a new coordinator for the Kavango West Region.
The party's regional conference was necessitated by the splitting of the Kavango Region into two - the Kavango East and Kavango West Regions - following recommendations by the Delimitation Commission last year.
The elective conference will be held on Saturday at the town of Nkurenkuru situated some 130 kilometres west of Rundu, which will also be the regional centre for the Kavango West Region.
The top three positions up for grabs are that of coordinator, mobiliser and treasurer.
Amongst the notable candidates vying for the coordinator position is former councillor for the Mpungu Constituency, David Hamutenya.
Hamutenya is also the former personal assistant of late Kavango Regional Governor Maurus Nekaro.
Nestor Mufenda, who is currently serving as the secretary of the Swapo-Party Elders’ Council in the Kavango regions, will also be vying for the coordinator position.
The other candidates are Lydia Kakukuru and John Siranda, who is currently serving as the party’s coordinator for the Kahenge District.
The candidates who will go up against each other for the mobiliser position are Magnus Linunga and Kapawana Nghilundilwa; while those vying for the treasurer position are Scolastika Hausiku, Herta Nekaro and Annelie Siunze, who is currently serving as treasurer of the SPWC in the region.
The Kavango East Region with its regional centre in Rundu already has its structures in place, with Kandjimi serving as the party's coordinator for that region. Eric Tjandja serves as mobiliser, while Engelberth Muyenga is the treasurer.
