Twelve arrested for wildlife crimes over one week

WINDHOEK, 01 OCT (NAMPA) – Twelve suspects were arrested by the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) for wildlife related crimes and eight wildlife products seized between 23 and 29 September 2019.
According to a wildlife crime statistics report issued by the Protected Resources Division of NamPol on Monday, the wildlife products seized included six pangolin skins, a live pangolin and one giraffe.
Six of the 12 suspects were arrested for contravening Section 26(1)(a) and (b) of the Controlled Wildlife Products and Trade Act 9 of 2008, as amended Act 6 of 2017, after they were found in possession of either a live pangolin or pangolin skins.
A hunting rifle and one vehicle were also seized.
