Twelve arrested for wildlife crimes over one week

WINDHOEK, 01 OCT (NAMPA) Twelve suspects were arrested by the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) for wildlife related crimes and eight wildlife products seized between 23 and 29 September 2019.
According to a wildlife crime statistics report issued by the Protected Resources Division of NamPol on Monday, the wildlife products seized included six pangolin skins, a live pangolin and one giraffe.
Six of the 12 suspects were arrested for contravening Section 26(1)(a) and (b) of the Controlled Wildlife Products and Trade Act 9 of 2008, as amended Act 6 of 2017, after they were found in possession of either a live pangolin or pangolin skins.
A hunting rifle and one vehicle were also seized.
