ECN official on duty dies in car crash at Grootfontein

GROOTFONTEIN, 30 MAY (NAMPA) - An Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) official died on Thursday morning in a motor-vehicle crash while on official duty at Grootfontein.
Otjozondjupa Regional Police Commander, Commissioner Joseph Anghuwo told Nampa this morning that a 57-year-old ECN official died after the vehicle he was driving collided head-on with a heavy goods? truck.
?The road accident happened at about 04h00 on Thursday, approximately 15 kilometres south of Grootfontein on the way to Otavi,? the police commissioner explained.
According to Anghuwo, the body of the ECN official was trapped in the mangled wreck of the car. His next of kin had not yet been informed at the time of writing.
Two other people who were involved in this accident were rushed to the Grootfontein State Hospital for medical attention.
They sustained various injuries, and were reportedly in a stable condition.
Police investigations to determine the cause of the collision are continuing.
The Grootfontein Regional Council by-elections started here this morning, with the results' announcement expected on Friday.
