Dolam Pirates wina Hardap Super Cup at Hoachanas

HOACHANAS, 30 SEP (NAMPA) – Katutura outfit Dolam Pirates won the Hardap Super Cup on Sunday in a tournament after defeating Dordabis based Triple O Stars 1-0 in a hard fought final held in Hoachanas.
The team, coached by former African Stars player, Wagga |Gôagoseb, defeated Rehoboth’s Brothers Re-United 1-0 in the quarter-final and en route to the final defeated Mariental NamPol 2-1 in the semi-final after coming from a goal down.
Triple O Stars meanwhile, defeated !Aerob Football Club 3-2 in the quarter-final and won their semi-final clash 6-5 on penalties after a 1-1 draw.
In an entertaining first half of the final, the two teams cancelled each other out in the midfield, with veteran skipper Ettiezen Tsuseb marshalling the defense of Dolam Pirates to cut off the through balls from the evergreen former Civics and Flamingo player, Seun |Gôagoseb.
On the other end, Dolam Pirates’ hard running forward Christof ‘Fifty’ Tjombombi caused all sorts of problems to the Triple O’ Stars defense, but failed to hit the target from numerous chances created by his teammate.
The first half ended goalless.
From the changeover, within five minutes from the restart Tjombombi opened the scoring after neat passing from his midfielders caught Stars’ rear-guard napping to make it 1-0 in favour of Dolam Pirates, a lead they held until the final whistle.
“Last year we lost 1-0 in the semi-final against Kaizer Chiefs from Arandis and this year since the start of August, we had only one thing on our minds, and that was to come here and win the tournament,” an elated Tsuseb said.
For winning the tournament, Dolam Pirates received N.dollar 15 000, 20 gold medals and a new soccer kit for their efforts, while Stars walked away with N.dollars 9 000, 20 silver medals and a new soccer kit, with Dates Eleven and !Aerob receiving N.dollars 3 000 as losing semi-finalists.
A total of 35 teams took part in the tournament with three soccer fields used.
Tournament organiser, Ricardo |Hawixa ||Garoëb, said the tournament went well and thanked all the teams that participated.
