WINDHOEK, 29 SEP (NAMPA) – The ||Kharas ladies football team won two of four matches they played against various football clubs here at the weekend in preparation for the upcoming 2019 Galz & Goals Under-17 National Championships.
The fourth edition of the Namibia Football Association U-17 championships are set to take place at the association’s technical centre here on 05 October.
During their first match on Saturday, the visiting team was defeated 5-1 by Welwitschia.
The second encounter saw ||Kharas adapting well to the turf field as they faced the Ramblers ladies football club in the afternoon.
||Kharas came back strong from halftime with goals pouring in from right-winger Roberta Engelbrecht followed by another magical touch by Lee-Zan Rooi at close range after some brilliant dribbling by Lerato Swartbooi.
Swartbooi took the bull by the horns and scored the third goal making the final score 3-0 in favour of the visitors.
The last match of the day saw the southern team going down 1-0 to Right Way Football Club.
On Sunday the visitors started the day on a good note when they defeated one of the Khomas Region’s toughest ladies team, Girls Football Academy 2-1, with both scored by Emily Windstaan just before halftime.
Speaking to Nampa after the matches, coach Dino Pieters of the ||Kharas Girls Football Academy revealed that he plans to reclaim the region’s glorious days of being known as a ‘soccer powerhouse’ in raising soccer stars with special emphasis on women football.
“We want to bring back the dreams, the hopes, the desire, the discipline of women football in the region that was lost in the past five years,” he said.
He added that he also plans to register the club with the Skorpion Zinc Women Super League in order to get more football exposure since there is more competitive football in Windhoek compared to the ||Kharas Region.
