Teenager accused of rape at Nkurenkuru released into guardian’s care

RUNDU, 27 SEP (NAMPA) – A 17-year-old boy who was arrested for allegedly raping an 11-year-old girl, was released into the care of his guardian after his first appearance in the Rundu Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.
The accused was arrested Tuesday for allegedly raping a girl who stays in the same house at Nkurenkuru in the Kavango West Region.
He appeared before magistrate Barry Mufana, who explained his rights to apply for legal aid and released the accused into a guardian’s care since he is still a minor.
Prosecutor Godfry Shivolo represented the State in the matter and the case was postponed to 05 December 2019.
The Namibian Police Force’s crime investigations coordinator for Kavango West, Deputy Commissioner Rudolf Mbumba told Nampa earlier the boy was arrested after a guardian reported the matter to the police.
Mbumba said he allegedly had sexual intercourse with the victim on several occasions.
Investigations continue.
