WINDHOEK, 27 SEP (NAMPA) – A total of 1 746 teaching posts were advertised Friday by the Ministry of Education, Arts and Culture for the year 2020.
In a media statement to Nampa, the ministry said 35 posts are for principals, 121 for heads of department (HoDs) and 1 590 for teachers.
“The teaching posts have been identified as critical, hence the need to be filled in order for the teaching and learning process not to be compromised. Posts for school principals and department heads which are currently vacant but have already been advertised are not included in this submission,” the statement reads.
The ministry said a comparison with the overall vacant positions from 2019 to 2012 indicates a decrease of 366 positions.
Teaching vacant posts are down with 261 from 1 851 for 2019 against 1 590 for 2020.
Positions for department heads have decreased with 74 from 195 of 2019 to 121 for 2020 and for principals, only 35 are available for 2020 compared to 66 in 2019.
“It should be noted that the issue of overstaffing, currently studying and employed teachers with five-year contracts have been considered and addressed before the submission. The teaching posts are currently occupied by temporary teachers whose contracts end in December 2019, while the HoD and principal posts are occupied in acting capacities,” said the statement.
The application closing dates for teachers’ positions are 11 October, and 25 October for HoDs and principals.
