WINDHOEK, 24 SEP (NAMPA) – The Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Forestry in collaboration with the Southern African Science Service Centre for Climate Change and Adaptive Land Management (SASSCAL) will host the second SASSCAL ministerial meeting in Windhoek on Thursday.
A statement issued on Tuesday said the meeting will take place under the theme ‘International Partnership for Climate Action’.
“It will bring together SADC ministers responsible for SASSCAL and the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research to sign the SASSCAL Treaty and Joint Declaration, inaugurate the SASSCAL council of ministers, deliberate on the SASSCAL Treaty and Joint Declaration and approve a roadmap towards its practical implementation,” reads the statement.
The meeting will also approve all instruments required to transform SASSCAL into an international organisation and provide an opportunity for the ministers and their delegates to network and reflect on climate change challenges in the region for a united climate action.
SASSCAL is the product of a partnership between Angola, Botswana, Namibia, South Africa, Zambia and Germany.
It focuses on delivering scientific knowledge products, services and capacity building on climate change and adaptive land management.
