OTJIWARONGO, 23 SEP (NAMPA) – A senior traffic officer of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in the Otjozondjupa Region died Monday afternoon after the official police motorbike he was operating rolled several times on the B1 road outside Otjiwarongo.
NamPol Regional Commander for Otjozondjupa, Commissioner Heinrich Tjiveze in an interview with Nampa at the accident scene said the traffic officer died on official duty as he was returning from attending a meeting in line with his work at a farm situated between Otjiwarongo and Otavi.
“He succumbed to his injuries at the scene,” said Tjiveze.
It is alleged the traffic officer lost control over his police motorbike, which caused it to roll several times while he held onto it, some 35 kilometres north of Otjiwarongo at about 15h15 on Monday.
The name of the officer is withheld until his close relatives are informed.
Police investigations in the matter continue.
