Walvis Bay shooter denied bail

WALVIS BAY, 23 SEP (NAMPA) – The 31-year-old police officer who allegedly shot his ex-girlfriend last week was denied bail in the Walvis Bay Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
Herman Abed was denied bail when he made his first court appearance before Magistrate Rhivermo Williams who advised him to either acquire a legal representative through the department of legal aid services of the Ministry of Justice, a private lawyer or represent himself in the attempted murder case.
The accused opted to acquire the services of a private lawyer and his case was postponed to 05 November 2019 to allow him to acquire a lawyer.
Prosecutor Maggy Shiyagaya represented the State.
The Namibian Police Force’s Crime Investigations Coordinator for Erongo, Deputy Commissioner Erastus Iikuyu in a crime report on Friday said the officer, who was on duty, allegedly shot the 22-year-old Selma Uupindi in the chest and twice in the arms with a service pistol.
The suspect handed himself over to the police after allegedly shooting Uupindi, who is recovering in a Windhoek hospital.
