WINDHOEK, 22 SEP (NAMPA) – National senior men's football team, the Brave Warriors, on Sunday lost their first leg of the 2020 Confederation of African Football (CAF), African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifiers 0-1 against Madagascar.
Namibia and Madagascar who booked themselves slots in the third round of the CHAN qualifiers after beating their opponents Comoros Island and Mozambique last month respectively, clashed at the Stade Municipal de Mahamasina in Antananarivo, Madagascar.
Namibia progressed to the third round of the CHAN qualifiers after a 2-0 aggregate win against Comoros while Madagascar beat Mozambique 3-3 on aggregate in August.
Namibia, who competed at the 2017 CHAN finals in Morocco, were on the verge of salvaging a draw on Sunday afternoon against the island nation, but their opponents had other plans for them as they scored a late goal in the injury time of the match.
Namibia will now have to win their return leg of the third round of the CHAN qualifiers in Windhoek on 19 October by 2-0 if they are to reach the competition finals for a second time in a row.
The aggregate winner of this fixture will qualify for the 2020 CHAN finals to be held in Cameroon.
