Man dies in shack fire at Gobabis

GOBABIS, 22 SEP, (NAMPA) – A 27-year-old man died on Sunday after his shack allegedly caught fire in the Freedom Square informal settlement of Epako in the Gobabis district.

A weekend crime report issued to Nampa by the Namibian Police Force's Spokesperson, Chief Inspector Kauna Shikwambi on Sunday, said that the incident occurred at about 03h00 on Sunday morning.

According to the report, it is alleged that neighbors heard the deceased who stays alone screaming in the burning shack, however they failed to rescue him because the door was locked with a chain and padlock from the inside.

After the fire was extinguished, the deceased’s burned body was found by the door of the shack, the report said.

The police further noted that the cause of the fire is still unknown and police investigations are still ongoing.

The deceased has been identified as Steven Adams.

His next of kin have been informed of his death.
