Walvis Bay police officer reportedly shoots ex-girlfriend

SWAKOPMUND, 20 SEP (NAMPA) – A 31-year-old police officer allegedly shot his ex-girlfriend in Walvis Bay on Thursday.
The Namibian Police Force’s Crime Investigations Coordinator for Erongo, Deputy Commissioner Erastus Iikuyu in a crime report issued on Friday said the officer, who was on duty, allegedly shot the 22-year-old woman in the chest and twice in the arms with a service pistol.
The incident occurred around 16h20 in Kuisebmond.
The suspect handed himself over to the police.
The victim was taken to the Walvis Bay State Hospital in a critical but stable condition but was later transferred to a Windhoek hospital for further treatment.
According to the police, the victim had registered a case of assault by threatening read with the provisions of the Combating of Domestic Violence Act of 2003 against the suspect at the Tutaleni Police Station earlier on Thursday.
The suspect will make his first court appearance on Monday.
