OTJIWARONGO, 18 SEP (NAMPA) – A 22-year-old man died instantly on Tuesday night at about 22h00 in Otjiwarongo after he was allegedly stabbed twice by a 32-year-old suspect.
Spokesperson of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in the Otjozondjupa Region, Inspector Maureen Mbeha in an interview with Nampa on Wednesday said the suspect was apprehended Tuesday night shortly after the alleged stabbing incident in the Orwetoveni township.
Mbeha said the deceased, who has been identified as Timoteus Ndeyamunye Shafohamba, was allegedly stabbed in the chest and on the arm with a knife by the suspect.
“The suspect allegedly stabbed four people on Tuesday night at a bar in Orwetoveni, including Shafohamba,” Mbeha said.
The police officer said Shafohamba collapsed a few metres from the bar where he was allegedly stabbed when he attempted to flee from the suspect’s attacks.
The three other injured victims - a woman and two men, were admitted in serious but stable conditions at the Otjiwarongo State Hospital.
Mbeha said the exact cause of the attack on the four people is still unknown.
The suspect has been arrested and is expected to appear in the Otjiwarongo Magistrate’s Court during the week.
Police investigations continue.
