Okakwa culpable homicide accused granted bail

ONGWEDIVA, 18 SEP (NAMPA) Nestor Eita Shuuveni, who is charged with culpable homicide for allegedly running over three pedestrians near Outapi in the Omusati Region on Saturday while intoxicated, was granted N.dollars 5 000 bail in the Outapi Magistrates Court on Monday.
Inspector Linekela Shikongo of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol)s Public Relations Unit in the region confirmed this to Nampa upon inquiry on Wednesday.
Shuuveni, 41, is also facing a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol.
His case is postponed to 06 November this year for further investigations while also waiting for the laboratory results, Shikongo stated.
NamPol, in a statement availed to Nampa over the weekend, indicated that Shuuveni was driving a Toyota Land Cruiser pick-up at around 20h00 on Saturday when the accident occurred at Okakwa location along the Outapi-Oshakati main road.
Two pedestrians died on the spot and a toddler, who was allegedly on the back of one of the victims, died on the way to the hospital.
The deceased were identified as Selma Nakavilu Kahungu, 31, Helena Martha Aipanda, 38, and nine-month-old Loide Latenda Fillipus.
Shikongo also confirmed that Shuuveni has since paid for his bail and was released from police custody.
