NKURENKURU, 21 JAN (NAMPA) - The Swapo-Party is set to hold a regional conference this coming weekend to elect a new coordinator for the Kavango West Region.
The Swapo-Party regional conference was necessitated by the splitting of the Kavango Region into two the Kavango East and Kavango West Regions - following recommendations by the Delimitation Commission last year.
The elective conference will be held on Saturday at the town of Nkurenkuru situated some 130 kilometres west of Rundu, which will also be the regional centre for the Kavango West Region.
The top three positions up for grabs are that of coordinator, mobiliser and treasurer.
An administrator of the Swapo-Party in the Kavango East Region, Konrad Sitarara told Nampa on Tuesday four people will be contesting the position of coordinator for Kavango West.
Amongst the notable candidates vying for the coordinator position is former councillor for the Mpungu Constituency, David Hamutenya.
Hamutenya is also the former personal assistant of late Kavango Regional Governor Maurus Nekaro.
Nestor Mufenda, who is currently serving as the secretary of the Swapo-Party Elders Council in the Kavango regions, will also be vying for the coordinator position.
The other candidates are Lydia Kakukuru and John Siranda, who is currently serving as the partys coordinator for the Kahenge District.
The candidates who will go up against each other for the mobiliser position are Magnus Linunga and Kapawana Nghilundilwa; while those vying for the treasurer position are Scolastika Hausiku, Herta Nekaro and Annelie Siunze, who is currently serving as treasurer of the Swapo-Party Womens Council in the region.
The Kavango East Region with its regional centre in Rundu already has its structures in place, with Johanna Kandjimi serving as the party's coordinator for that region. Eric Tjandja serves as mobiliser, while Engelberth Muyenga is the treasurer.
