Uushwa and Oshekasheka win 2019 Metropolitan/Swabou Cup

ONGWEDIVA, 16 SEP (NAMPA) – Uushwa Combined School (CS) from the Omusati Region and Oshekasheka CS from the Oshana Region were Saturday crowned the champions of the soccer and netball categories respectively of the 2019 Metropolitan/Swabou Summer Cup.
This follows the competition’s interregional finals held at the Valombola Vocational Training Centre on Friday and Saturday.
Uushwa handed Karibib Junior Secondary School (JSS) from the Erongo Region a 2-1 defeat during their normal time in the soccer final of the tournament.
Oshekasheka defeated their netball counterparts from Atlantic JSS from Erongo by 33-32.
As the champions, these two school teams each scooped top prizes of N.dollars 15 000, floating trophies and gold medals.
The boys from Nyangana CS in the Kavango East Region are third in soccer after defeating PI Groenewald JSS from the Hardap Region 3-1 in their third position play-off.
Karibib in second spot for soccer received N.dollars 9 000 and silver medals and Nyangana N.dollars 6 000 and bronze medals. PI Groenewald JSS got N.dollars 4 000 for their efforts.
Atlantic, as the runners-up in the netball contest, took home N.dollars 9 000 and silver medals, the girls from John Shekudja CS in the Omusati Region finished the tournament in third position and received N.dollars 6 000 and bronze medals.
Onanghulo CS from Ohangwena got N.dollars 4 000 in the fourth position.
Overall winner Oshekasheka reached the netball final after defeating John Shekudja 24-22 in the semi-final, while Atlantic beat Onanghulo 26-25 in the other netball semi-final.
The Metropolitan/Swabou Life Insurance Company this year committed N.dollars 450 000 towards the prizes and hosting of the annual tournament.
