SWAKOPMUND, 14 SEP (NAMPA) – The Swapo Party Women's Council (SPWC) on Saturday launched its trainer’s manual on gender, political advocacy and leadership here, at the start of a one-day training workshop for the ruling party's branch coordinators in the Erongo Region.
Launching the manual, SPWC Secretary Eunice Iipinge explained that the manual particularly focuses in skills areas of advocacy, lobbying and mobilisation with an ultimate aim of achieving equal gender political representation.
“The manual is also aimed at mainstreaming gender related concerns within various national, regional and local development policies and programmes,” she said.
The booklet, Iipinge added is further envisaged to serve as a tool in the hands of trainers who would be entrusted with conducting training sessions for women leaders and gender activists at the various levels.
Meanwhile, the training workshop hosted by the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES) is aimed to empower trainees with the necessary basic understanding on gender, political advocacy and leadership.
It is also aimed at stimulating critical awareness, analysis and foster gender assertiveness around the various challenges that impede the equal participation, representation and the equitable development of women.
Speaking at the same event, FES Project Manager Sylvia Mundjindi pointed out that although there is an increased number of women in political decision-making structures, there is equally a need to ensure that they are regularly empowered with the relevant skills in order to bring about the desired changes within the society.
“For that reason, FES is thus here today to ensure that we play the role of ensuring that women are empowered and making a sustainable impact in the Namibian society,” she said.
