Ongwediva inaugurates new junior council

ONGWEDIVA, 14 SEP (NAMPA) – Natasha Ipumbu, a grade 11 learner at the Mweshipandeka Senior Secondary School (SSS), was sworn in as the new junior mayor of the northern town, on Friday.
She was sworn in with 18 other new members of the Ongwediva Junior Council including Christoph Ndengu from the Gabriel Taapopi SSS as the deputy junior mayor.
Members of the council are drawn from various schools within the boundaries of Ongwediva Town, and they will serve for a period of two years.
In her acceptance speech at the inauguration ceremony of the junior council, Iipumbu said: “I am well aware that this position comes with great responsibility, determination, sacrifice and hard work, and I am willing to put these on my shoulders.
While promising to be a great leader, she explained that being part of the leadership is a task that they have been given to be the voice of the young people.
The town’s outgoing junior mayor Rebekka Nghilaluwa also attended the event while the town’s Mayor Angelina Angula presided over the oath-taking ceremony.
