RUNDU, 20 JAN (NAMPA) - The eight suspects who robbed a take away at Rundu of N.dollars 400 000 last Tuesday, have not yet been arrested.
The suspects allegedly held the manager of the take away/restaurant establishment, Willem Jansen van Rensburg, at gunpoint and took the money from the safe before fleeing the scene.
The Namibian Police Force (NamPol)’s Kavango Regional Crime Coordinator, Deputy Commissioner Willie Bampton told Nampa on Monday the suspects arrived at the take away at 23h45 and tied up the manager and a taxi driver who was busy playing on the jackpot machines in the restaurant.
The suspects then demanded the keys to the safe from the manager’s wife and threatened to shoot her husband if she did not hand it over.
After getting hold of the money, they fled the scene in a taxi.
The taxi was found abandoned at the Sikanduko informal settlement on the outskirts of Rundu, and the suspects allegedly fled into the nearby bushes.
The police crime coordinator called on business people to refrain from keeping large amounts of money at their business premises, saying they should rather bank it on a daily basis.
The police requested anyone with information that would lead to the arrest of the suspects, to contact them.
