OHANGWENA, 10 SEP (NAMPA) – Former Namibian High Commissioner to Botswana, Hadino Hishongwa has been appointed as the new senior headman of Omhedi, one of the 11 districts that fall under the Oukwanyama Traditional Authority (OTA)
The leader (ohamba) of the OTA, Martha Mwadinomho waKristian yaNelumbu announced this at a public meeting held at Ohangwena suburb of the Helao Nafidi Town in the Ohangwena Region on Tuesday.
Hishongwa takes over the leadership of Omhedi district, following the death of former senior headman of the district, Johannes Moshana, who died some months ago.
“I appeal to you all leaders of the villages and residents in the district to give him (Hishongwa) the necessary support, the same way you assisted the late Moshana in the administration of the district,” urged yaNelumbu.
Omhedi is the key OTA district for being the location of Oukwanyama Royal House. According to yaNelumbu, senior headman of Onandova district, Elias Waandja, has been acting leader of Omhedi since the death of Moshana.
Accepting the appointment, Hishongwa promised to carry out his new responsibility with respect of the values and norms of the OTA and to be loyal to his appointing authority.
“I will do it with respect like how I served for 16 years as a deputy minister in the Namibian government, as the country’s ambassador to neighbouring Botswana for seven years and during my participation in the struggle for Namibia’s liberation,” Hishongwa vowed.
Hishongwa is currently both the deputy chairperson of OTA Council and one of yaNelumbu’s advisors.
