WINDHOEK, 04 SEP (NAMPA)-The City of Windhoek (CoW) on Monday signed a friendship agreement with the City of Suzhou in the Peoples Republic of China aimed at fostering mutual understanding and friendship between the two cities.
According to a statement issued to Nampa on Tuesday, the agreement further aims to consolidate and develop friendly cooperation between the two cities and the people of Namibia and China over a period of five years.
The agreement, which is valid for five years, was signed by the CoW Mayor, Muezee Kazapua and Li Yaping, the Mayor of Suzhou on behalf of the two respective cities in Suzhou, China, the statement said.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Kazapua said the signing was a result of friendly consultations between the two cities that culminated in a Letter of in Intent, which was signed by the two cities in Windhoek in August 2018.
The friendship city agreement covers exchanges and cooperation between the two cities in the fields of economics, trade, science and technology, culture, education, sports, health and personnel [employees], it further states.
Kazapua further expressed his satisfaction with the fact that the two cities have agreed to cooperate on important areas, which are key drivers in municipal service delivery and local economic development.
The CoW mayor urged the two administrations to draw up a working program that will ensure implementation of specific projects under the agreed areas of cooperation.
Kazapua is on a working visit in Suzhou, China, and is expected to return to Windhoek on Wednesday.
