Debmarine Netball Championship kicks off

WINDHOEK, 31 AUG (NAMPA) – The third edition of the Debmarine Namibia Senior Regional Netball Championship kicked off on Friday at the Khomasdal Stadium Netball Courts, with hosts Khomas defeated Erongo by 17-13 in the opening match.

The defending champions will be looking at winning the trophy for the third successive year.

Speaking to Nampa on Friday, Netball Namibia (NN) Vice President, Rebecca Goagoses, said everything was in place and they were looking forward to an exciting weekend.

“All the teams are here, with Kunene delayed by a breakdown, thus arriving a bit late. We started on time. All the teams have received their attire well on time from the sponsors Debmarine. We are looking forward to an exciting tournament,” she added.

The first day of the tournament, which was attended by nearly 300 spectators, also saw victories for Omaheke over Otjozondjupa (27-19) while Kunene lost to Hardap by 11-04.

Erongo then came back to defeat Kavango West by 22-09 and Khomas overcame Omaheke by 26-20.

The final match of the evening saw Kavango East defeat Hardap by 28-12.

The rest of the matches continue on Saturday with the finals expected later that evening.
