National volleyball tournament underway at Otjiwarongo

OTJIWARONGO, 31 AUG (NAMPA) - A two-day annual National Volleyball’s Federation Cup tournament officially kicked off on Saturday morning at Otjiwarongo in the Otjozondjupa Region.

The President of the Namibia Volleyball Federation (NVF), Hillary Imbuwa, officially opened the tournament, which was started with a street procession.

Imbuwa said participants in the tournament are from the volleyball associations from the northern regions of Namibia as well as those from Zambezi, Kavango East and Kavango West, Khomas, Erongo and Kunene.

Imbuwa said the games will end at the quarter-final level and the second round of the games will be played during next-month in Swakopmund in the Erongo Region.

“Winners of the tournament will be rewarded with medals, trophies and cash,” he said.

The best volleyball team will receive N.dollars 10 000 in the first place, N.dollars 8 000 in second, third is N.dollars 5 000, and N.dollars 2 000 in the fourth place.

Imbuwa also added that the best volleyball players during this tournament will be selected to join the national team that will participate in the Zone 6 African Championship Games to take place in Malawi in December this year.
