Kavango East netball team hoping to reach Debmarine finals

RUNDU, 29 AUG (NAMPA) – The Kavango East Region has selected its final 12-member netball team players to represent the region at the Debmarine Namibia Senior Regional Netball Championship slated for this weekend.
The third edition of the competition will be played at the Khomasdal Stadium in Windhoek where all 14 regional teams will compete for the N.dollars 30 000 price tag from Friday until Saturday.
Speaking to Nampa on Wednesday, the team’s head of delegation Leopoldina Haushiku said they selected players playing in the league which includes teams from as far as Divundu and Shinyungwe, noting that every player was given a fair chance according to their league performance.
As far as their preparations go, she said the team looks ready and has had two training sessions a day. They also managed to play a series of friendly games to prepare them, with the aim of making it to the finals.
“We are 100 per cent ready for the championship. The girls have been training in the morning and afternoon to make sure they are fit,” said Haushiku.
Furthermore, she applauded several local companies that assisted them with food for the training camp, saying those companies should not stop assisting sport teams in the region, and urged other local companies to lend a helping hand to sports wherever possible.
The team consists of Campbell Shipunda, Lucia Haikera, Isabela Muthitu, Hendrina Shoro, Selma Moses, Christian Goases, Kenga Mbwanga, Selma Kahengutji, Getrud Shiputa, Felistas Kaveto, Magdelena Sivara and Selma Shikukumwa.
The technical team comprises Haushiku as head of delegation, Desdelia Hamunyera as team manager and Melanie Mbuuru as head coach.
Kavango East will open their play against Oshana on Saturday and play against ||Kharas in their second match while squaring-off with Hardap in their third game.
In their fourth game, they will face Kunene and proceed with Ohangwena for their fifth game and finish off with the Zambezi Region.
The tournament was started in 2017 with the support of Debmarine Namibia in conjunction with Netball Namibia.
