MARIENTAL, 29 AUG (NAMPA) – The Evangelical Lutheran Church in the Republic of Namibia on Wednesday elected Reverends Sageus |Keib and Abraham ||Kheibeb as Bishop and Depury Bishop of the ELCRN, respectively.
|Keib is the incumbent leader of Immanuel Parish in Swakopmund and ||Kheibeb the current Windhoek Circuit Dean. They replace the outgoing Bishop of the ELCRN, Reverend Ernst ||Gamxamub and Deputy Bishop Paul Hatani Kisting on 03 November in Okahandja.
|Keib scored 5 316 from 8 901 votes cast while Kisting received 1 839 and ||Kheibeb 1 702 votes in a process that started with nominations in March and the election for the ELCRN bishop in May.
Although Kisting came second, ||Kheibeb becomes the new deputy bishop-elect as the ELCRN Constitution does not allow three terms in both positions, with Kisting having served as deputy during Bishop Emeritus Zephania Kameeta’s reign and in the current administration.
The 28th Ordinary Synod of the ELCRN started on Sunday and ended Wednesday with a church service where a Holy Mass was served.
The counting of the ballots started Tuesday, with the results announced late Wednesday afternoon.
A total of 20 850 ballots were printed, with 8 901 used, among them 44 spoiled ballots.
|Keib was voted for by 39 parishes and congregations, while Kisting and ||Kheibeb were voted for by nine parishes and congregations each.
