MARIENTAL, 29 AUG (NAMPA) The Hardap Region has selected a 12-member netball team and a technical team for the Debmarine Senior Regional Netball Championships slated for this coming weekend at the Khomasdal Stadium in Windhoek.
The third edition will see all 14 regional teams compete for the N.dollars 30 000 at stake as from Friday until Saturday.
Speaking to Nampa on Wednesday, chairperson of the Hardap Netball Association (HARNA) Blossom Jacobs explained that although the region did not have ongoing leagues this year, it went ahead and advertised the dates of trials on social media and through the different radio stations in the country.
Only players from local Netball Clubs pitched, because there was a challenge with transport in the region to bring in other netball players from around Mariental, and at this stage HARNA does not have funds to assist outside players, Jacobs said.
Despite this, she added, the team is mentally and physically ready and well-prepared while very much motivated and committed.
I know the Hardap team will go all the way and I expect them in the top 3, and to come out as the champions. I want to thank all the local sponsors that have so far sponsored or assisted the Hardap Regional team in cash or kind and also those that are still going to sponsor and assist us in the near future, she said.
The selected players are, Rughadi K. Sheya (Captain), Paulina Shimanda, Miriam H. Ndeyamo, Fransina Aitabes, Charonne Tsei-Tseis, Ela Lodewyk, Florence M. Cooper, Ismarelda Seibes, Laetitia Beukes, Zenobia Tsei-Tseis, Naomi Haubas and Tresia Shikwaya.
The Technical Team consist of Jacobs as head of delegation, with Pakela Christiaan as coach and Sofia Tipoth as team manager.
Hardap will open their account against Zambezi, followed by Oshana, Kavango East and Ohangwena.
Khomas are the current defending champions of the series after they have won it in 2017 and again 2018.
The tournament was started in 2017 with the support of Debmarine Namibia in conjunction with Netball Namibia.
