Goals galore on day two of Skorpion Zinc tournament

WINDHOEK, 25 AUG (NAMPA) – Day two of the 2019 edition of the Skorpion Zinc under-17 tournament, which is currently underway at the Sam Nujoma Stadium in the capital, produced 25 goals.

Following the 27 goals scored on day one on Friday, the goals continued to pour in on Saturday, with the Zambezi Region’s Mike Mwiya continuing his rich goal-scoring form as he netted both goals in his side’s 2-1 victory over Erongo.

Kavango East and Oshana drew the first match of Saturday 1-1 while Ohangwena defeated Omusati 2-0.

Kavango West then lost to Oshikoto by 1-0, while host region, Khomas, drew 1-1 with Otjozondjupa.

Oshana then beat //Kharas by a 2-1 score line, making the latter, who are also the defending champions, the first side to be eliminated from the competition.

Hardap, who had lost their opening match of the tournament to Omaheke, bounced back from that defeat to beat Kavango East by 2-1.

Oshikoto, who started the tournament like a house on fire beating Omusati 5-1 came crumbling down with a 3-2 defeat to Ohangwena.

The final match of the day pitted Kavango West and Omusati against each other, with the latter winning 3-0 and effectively eliminating Omusati from the tournament as they lost all their three matches at the tournament so far, while also conceding the highest amount of goals.

Alberto De Sousa from Oshikoto, scored five goals on the opening day and added one more goal to sit atop the scoring charts on six goals, followed by Mwiya with four.

The tournament continues at Sam Nujoma Stadium on Sunday with eight matches scheduled for the day.
