REHOBOTH, 21 AUG (NAMPA) The Hardap Region announced its 20-member Under-17 (U-17) football team and technical team to compete in the Skorpion Zinc Cup slated for Windhoek.
The tournament takes place from 23-26 August and will see all 14 regions compete in what is the biggest youth tournament for the U-17s.
Hardap Region Football Association secretary, Ricky Brinkmann said on Wednesday the team is ready to do battle and fight for the ultimate prize.
We have roped in young coaches who run football academies and have been working with the boys for a long time and believe they have the abilities to surprise many, said Brinkmann.
The players selected are Carlos Vehananavi, Carlos Nanseb, Romeo Routh, McHenry Gaoseb, Wilbard Vilho, Antonio Pieters, Justin Dick, Eugenio Gowaseb, Gievanus Sheyoujuni, Xen Bereney Kamperipa, Elzai Saal, Phulani Saul, Gilberto Karigub, Aron Awaseb, Leonard Shimwenene, Melvin Kooper, Mervin Klein, Edmundo Oarum, Justin Jantjies and Jacob Swartbooi.
Meanwhile, the technical team includes Nelson Isaack as team manager, Lucas Uugwanga taking up the head coach position and assisted by Foresta Misoana, while Jackson Nanyamba is the head of delegation and Matthias Lazarus doubling as kit manager and team medic.
Hardap have been grouped with defending champions ||Kharas, Omaheke, Kavango East and Oshana in group B.
In group A, hosts Khomas will go up against Erongo, Kunene, Zambezi and Otjozondjupa.
Group C is comprised of Ohangwena, Oshikoto, Omusati and Kavango West.
The top three teams and the best placed runner-up will qualify for the semi-finals of the competition.
