Geingob extends birthday wishes to Pohamba

WINDHOEK, 18 AUG (NAMPA) – President Hage Geingob on Sunday extended birthday and well wishes to former President of the Republic of Namibia, Hifikepunye Pohamba who turned 83 years on Sunday.
Geingob sent the birthday wish via his Facebook page.
“Today is the birthday of our gentle giant, our comrade and former president, His Excellency Hifikepunye Pohamba. As we count on your wisdom and counsel, I wish you many more years of splendid health,” the Head of State said.
Pohamba was born on 18 August 1936 at Okanghudi settlement in the Ohangwena Region and attended elementary school at the Anglican Holy Cross Mission at Onamunama from 1947 to 1954.
He later went on to work at Tsumeb Corporation Limited mine from 1956 to 1960 where he was introduced to politics and became a founding member of Swapo in that year.
He left for exile in 1961 and held different positions before becoming Swapo’s secretary for finance from 1977 to 1989.
Pohamba became the first Home Affairs minister in 1990 and later served in different portfolios before serving the country as second president from 2005 until 2015, when he took over from Founding President and Founding Father of the Namibia Nation, Sam Nujoma.
