OSHIKANGO, 17 AUG (NAMPA) – The Namibian Police Force (NamPol) team emerged as the overall champion in the football competition of the 2019 Southern Africa Regional Police Chiefs Coordination Organisation (SARPCCO) Games held in Luanda, Angola from 01-13 August.
NamPol Commissioner for Training and Development, Monaliza Molebugi made this announcement upon the team’s arrival back home at the Oshikango border post in the Ohangwena Region on Friday.
The team’s goalkeeper, Constable Willem Shikongo is the tournament’s overall best goalkeeper, while famous Namibian running athlete, Lavinia Haitope collected eight gold medals at the championship.
“We collected 17 gold medals, eight silvers and seven bronzes,” Molebugi reported to Inspector-General of NamPol, Lieutenant-General Sebastian Ndeitunga, who was also at Oshikango to receive the 119-member team officially on Friday afternoon.
Molebugi said the Namibian team successfully defended its second position of the last games after Zimbabwe - the winning country of this year’s SARPCCO Games.
Addressing the team on the grounds of the Oshikango NamPol Station, Ndeitunga noted that Namibia won the football competition and successfully defended her second position because of the team members’ discipline, dedication, teamwork and commitment.
“You did us proud, and we are here to give you a heroes’ welcome,” Ndeitunga told the team whilst at the same time urging them to already start preparing for the next SARPCCO Games.
It was the 10th SARPCCO tournament, which is hosted every three years. The date and host country of the next games are yet to be determined.
