Group arrested for illegal hunting at Kalkfeld

OTJIWARONGO, 10 AUG (NAMPA) - Ten suspects between the ages of 16 and 33 years were on Friday arrested at Kalkfeld settlement in the Otjiwarongo Constituency on charges of illegal hunting and possession of game meat without a valid permit.

Spokesperson of the Namibian Police Force in the Otjozondjupa Region, Inspector Maureen Mbeha on Saturday told Nampa in an interview the nine males and one female suspect were arrested after a tip off from the public which led to the recovery of four oryx carcasses at Kalkfeld.

“Eight of these suspects (face) a charged of illegal hunting which was allegedly conducted at two different farms outside Kalkfeld, while the two others on possession of game meat valued at N.dollars 10 800,” she said.

The suspects are expected to appear in the Otjiwarongo Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

Police investigations continue.
