NDF Sergeant Major dies

KEETMANSHOOP, 10 AUG (NAMPA) – The Namibian Police Force at Keetmanshoop on Saturday confirmed the death of 58-year-old Namibian Defence Force (NDF) Sergeant Major Class One, Leonard Pendapala Iiyambo, with a heart attack suspected to be the cause.
The Namibian Police Force crime investigations coordinator for //Kharas, Deputy Commissioner Chrispin Mubebo confirmed the death in an interview with Nampa on Saturday.
Mubebo said Iiyambo died at around 02h18 at the Keetmanshoop State Hospital.
He added that no foul play is suspected and police investigations continue.
The deceased's next of kin have been informed of his death.
Speaking to this News Agency on Saturday, Acting Chief of the Defence Force, Air Vice Marshal Martin Pinehas, said the Namibian nation at large and the Ministry of Defence had lost a very dedicated soldier.
“We have learned with sadness the loss of Warrant Officer Class One, Iiyambo who has been serving in the NDF in various capacities and was currently serving as the NDF Sergeant Major from 01 March 2019 until his death,” he said.
Iiyambo was attending the week-long sixth annual NDF Sports Games in Keetmanshoop.
