ONGWEDIVA, 09 AUG (NAMPA) – The Mandume Ndemufayo Road at Ongwediva, which was temporary closed in June due to the upgrading of Ehenge Street, was reopened on Thursday.
This was announced by Ongwediva Town Council spokesperson, Jackson Muma, on Friday. The closure of a section of the Mandume Ndemufayo Road, from the junction of the Select Service Station towards Spar Super Market, was necessitated by the upgrading of Ehenge Street to bitumen standard.
Motorists at the town were using alternative roads during the period of closure. Muma told Nampa that the upgrading of Ehenge Street started in December last year and is to be completed in September this year when contractors are done with the final touches.
“The council has invested N.dollars 12.5 million in this project,” Muma stated, adding that traffic congestion in the Mandume Ndemufayo will be eased once the upgrading of the Ehenge Road is completed.
He explained that residents of the town currently suffer traffic overcrowding on the Mandume Ndemufayo Road, especially during peak hours and the time of the Ongwediva Trade Fair.
